The generation mechanisms of a tube vortex in swirl-stabilized pulverized coal-methane flames are elucidated. Particle image velocimetry and Mie scattering are used to investigate the flame structures. The flame is divided into three regions: the IRZ zone, transition zone between the IRZ and ETV, and ETV zone. The ETV has a hollow-tube structure, and its behavior depends on the swirl intensity of the burner.
