First report for the preparation of α,α-dibromoacetophenones from aromatic alkenes. Readily available starting materials, metal-free and easy to handle procedures. One-pot oxidative bromination mediated by bifunctional reagent 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin.
