Potential for use of solar energy use in the global petroleum sector. Solar thermal and solar PV can be used to offset power and heat demands in oil sector processes. The potential scale of solar development is large: 10s–100s of GW each of solar thermal and solar PV. Uncertainty is large at the global scale: low and high estimates deviate by a factor of 3–4.
