Curricular reforms are needed to train sustainability-conscious engineers.

A learning-cycle-based sustainability module was developed based on Kolb's learning cycle.

Student concept maps showed significant learning gains after module completion.

Surveys, which were likely biased by students' negative perceptions, showed few learning gains.

The module should be completely integrated into the course to ensure student satisfaction.
