Ostertagia ostertagi has three distinctive macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) transcripts (Oos-MIF).
Oos-MIF-1.1 is localised to hypodermis/muscle, reproductive tract and intestine, but not cuticle.
Oos-MIF-1 is present in all developmental stages of O. ostertagi.
rOos-MIF-1.1 has tautomerase, glucocorticoid counter-regulating and macrophage migration inhibitory activities.
rOos-MIF-1.1 binds to a human MIF receptor and is internalised by macrophages.
