The reproducibility of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) measurements depends of several factors. The shape of the leaf margin is the most important source of variation. The width of leaf halves showed lowest reproducibility in leaves with serrate margins. Naïve observers demonstrated higher reproducibility than experienced observers. FA of press-dried leaves adequately reflected the FA of fresh leaves.
