A lower-tropospheric cold pool is identified as the main process involved in shaping this rare dust storm. Thermodynamically, the best lifted index was negative indicating the moderate storm incidence probability. The data recorded at the synoptic stations showed sudden increases of both the wind speed and relative humidity. From the satellite images, the general path of the storm was determined from NE Iraq towards the north of Iran. WRF-Chem model correctly determined the main dust source being inside the country.
