Near-field sea-level variability in northwest Europe and ice sheet stability during the last interglacial

Last Interglacial (LIG) highstand coral reefs record meter-scale sea-level jumps.

We test for such jumps in nearfield, temperate coastal settings of Northwest Europe.

There is no coherent, regional-scale evidence for large sea-level jumps.

There is no strong evidence for LIG ice sheet collapse/regrowth during the highstand.

Caution is needed when inferring ice sheet collapse from LIG highstand sea-level data.
