Tannins, flavonoids and stilbenes in extracts of African savanna woodland trees Terminalia brownii, Terminalia laxiflora and Anogeissus leiocarpus showing promising antibacterial potential
文摘
Polar extracts of Terminalia brownii, T. laxiflora and Anogeissus leiocarpus gave significant antibacterial effects. Several unknown ellagitannins along with corilagin, punicalagin and methyl-flavogallonate were found in the Terminalia spp. Ampelopsin, aromadendrin, taxifolin, pinosylvin and methylpinosylvin were found in A. leiocarpus roots for the first time. Gallic and ellagic acid and punicalagin, present in the extracts of some species gave higher MIC values than the extracts. A methyl-flavogallonate enriched Sephadex LH-20 fraction of T. brownii gave higher MIC values compared to the extracts.
