An increase in the diabetes' prevalence and a rise in CV complications are expected from 2002 to 2012. A greater reduction in major CV complications was observed in DM in comparison with No DM. The decline observed could be partially due to a large increase in prescription of CV drugs. A relevant change towards a safer antihyperglicemic drugs was observed.
