Ablation of transglutaminase 2 impairs astrocyte migration subsequent to injury. Astrocyte migration can only be restored with catalytically active transglutaminase 2. Inhibition of transglutaminase 2 transamidating activity and GTP binding impairs injury-induced migration. The facilitation of astrocyte migration of transglutaminase 2 is likely independent of the TGFβ signaling pathway.
