Wild-caught animals are often used in physiological studies.

However acclimation periods remain unknown for most species.

Body mass of Cape white-eyes increased in the first 3 weeks in captivity.

However, resting metabolic rates remained constant throughout the study period.

So in some instances, species may not need to be acclimated to laboratory conditions prior to metabolic measurements.
