Presence of juniper or sagebrush increases infiltration. Timing of 15 cm soil moisture dry down was similar between juniper and interspace. Dry down at 60 cm occurred 22 days earlier in the interspace than in the canopy. Increases in 60 cm moisture after rain events occurred primarily below the canopy. Juniper potentially extract moisture up to 12 m below the surface in the saprolite.
