Preparation of ZnO from 2 D nanosheets to diverse 1 D nanorods and their structure, surface area, photocurrent, optical and photocatalytic properties by simple hydrothermal synthesis

Hydrothermal synthesis was carried out with CO(NH2)2−N2H4. Diverse ZnO nanorods with various tips were synthesized from the system of CO(NH2)2−N2H4. ZnO samples exhibit a dominant UV luminescence and very weak defect peaks. Density, UV emission, and surface area of the nanorods can be tuned by controlling N2H4 and CO(NH2)2 concentrations. Rapid photocatalytic activity of nanorods is mainly attributed to the exposure of polar (002) plane.
