Biological functions and the essentiality of vitamin E for human health are still questionable. RDA and AI values have been proposed, but the concept of optimal intake for this vitamin remains elusive. In the last decades physiological and bioactive metabolites of vitamin E have been identified. Recent studies reveal promising applications of vitamin E in prevention of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and NASH. Other potential applications of vitamin E have been proposed in neuroprotection, immunomodulation and antiallergic interventions.
