We explored children’s ability to rely on others’ body orientation to understand others’ attentional focus.
3.5-, but not 2-year-old children were able to use body orientation as a cue to match a word to a referent.
In the same setup, 2-year-old children were able to rely on a pointing cue to map a word to a referent.
This suggests a developmental decalage in children’s developing appreciation of body orientation cues.
