Using synthetic gene technology to study functional domains of TPMVd on tomato. Terminal Right (TR) domain of TPMVd was responsible for severe disease symptoms. A single base pair in the TR domain was identified as the virulence determinant factor. TR domain as virulence determinant factor was validated through a reciprocal mutant. The virulence determinant factor is variable among pospiviroids.
