A validation study, the first to our knowledge, that physically based renderings may be used in place of high dynamic range photographs to predict visual discomfort. A comparison of synthetic and photographed sky luminance distributions in terms of how well they reproduce measured indoor luminance distributions. A comparison of two programs, RADIANCE and Accelerad, in terms of speed and accuracy for predicting visual discomfort. Sensitivity analysis showing the effect of varying RADIANCE parameters on simulation time and accuracy of glare predictions. Recommendations for how to carry out visual discomfort analysis as part of building design.
