Evaluation of mammalian approaches for enhancer identification genome-wide is assessed for relevance in plant species. The success of recently developed whole-genome techniques in plants as well as classical approaches is discussed. The implication of tissue heterogeneity on the interpretation of -omics data sets is addressed.
