A novel helical comb magnetostrictive patch transducer (HCMPT) is proposed. A HCMPT can selectively excite and receive a single dominant flexural wave in a pipe. An analysis indicates that a flexural wave propagates at an angle to the pipe axis. The validity and detection ability of a HCMPT are verified by laboratory experiments.
