Microstructural evolution of a ductile metastable β titanium alloy with combined TRIP/TWIP effects

The Ti-12Mo alloy displays a superior combination of high strength, large ductility and improved strain-hardening. The deformation mechanism were mechanical twinning, {112}〈111〉 and {332}〈113〉 and SIM α″ phase transformations. Primary mechanical twinning and primary SIM α″ phase were activated simultaneously in the β matrix. Secondary mechanical twinning and secondary SIM α″ phase were triggered in the twinned β zones.
