Phosphate-based geopolymer: Formation mechanism and thermal stability

Phosphate-based geopolymer were formed with various molar ratios of Si, Al and P. Silica fume, metakaolin and monoaluminum phosphate were used as raw materials. The formation mechanisms were analyzed through TG-DTA, XRD and EDS analyses. Formation of SiO2·Al2O3·P2O5·nH2O and AlH3(PO4)2·3H2O leads to strength growth. Changes from AlH6O12P3 to AlPO4 leads to higher strength at elevated temperatures.
