Effects of phosphate binders on the gastrointestinal absorption of arsenate and of an SGLT2 inhibitor drug on the urinary excretion of arsenite in mice
Phosphate binders bind and precipitate arsenate in vitro (La3+ > Al3+ > sevelamer). Orally dosed La3+ or Al3+ compounds decrease absorption of arsenate gavaged to mice. Dapagliflozin causes glycosuria but does not increase the urinary excretion of arsenite. Na+-dependent glucose transporter-2 plays no role in renal reabsorption of arsenite.
