MCM-41 was modified by 3-aminopropyltrimetoxysilane and trimethylchlorosilane.

Two different post-synthetic methods were applied for particle functionalization.

The mesopores of the particles were preserved even after functionalization.

The inherent properties of organosilanes affected external and internal structures.

The grafting methods had a tremendous impact on the obtained treated particles.
