A positive sequence superimposed current based procedure is addressed for identifying the fault directionality. The fault direction is determined by the angle deviation between pre-fault and faulty positive sequence current components. The proposed procedure solves the problems of directional relay during single pole tripping condition. The proposed method is emulated using ATP/EMTP for variant fault scenarios. The developed scheme is fast, reliable, robust compared to the previous works in the literature.
