Real-time net Cd2+ flux was monitored to verify the Cd2+ uptake pathways by wheat. Accumulation and Cd2+ flux indicate Cd uptake by wheat depends on metabolic energy. Ca2+ channels are involved in the membrane transport system of Cd2+ by wheat. Our results suggest a role of protein synthesis in mediating Cd2+ uptake by wheat.
