TRPV1 channels modulate cardiovascular response both in positive and negative manner. TRPV1 channel activation reduces the development of atherosclerosis and systemic hypertension. Activation of these channels reduces myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. TRPV1 channel activation is deleterious and promotes pulmonary hypertension, hemorrhage and vascular remodeling.
