Tool wear and form accuracy in ultrasonically machined microchannels

Tungsten carbide as a tool was taken for fabrication of microchannels using ultrasonic micromachining.

The tool wear was quantified into three different type of wear – longitudinal wear, lateral wear, edge rounding wear.

A mathematical model was developed to quantify total volumetric wear.

The effect of tool wear was observed on form accuracy of developed microchannels.
