Allele distributions are presented for twenty-three autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci in Caucasians, Southwestern Hispanics, Southeastern Hispanics, African Americans, Bahamians, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Chamorros, Filipinos, Apaches, and Navajos.

The FBI population samples used in these analyses have been typed using several PCR-based systems dating to the 1990s, including the STR amplification kits Profiler, Profiler Plus, COfiler, Identifiler Plus and PowerPlex 1.1, and D1S80, DQA1 and Polymarker. The accuracy of the STR genotypes from the current study was verified through concordance assessment of the GlobalFiler and Fusion typing results, as well as through verification with previously generated results from earlier multiplexes. Examples of non-concordance due to rare kit-specific primer binding site variants that preclude allele detection are also presented.

The allele frequency data are included in PopStats software for calculating statistical estimates of DNA typing results and cover globally used STR loci, including the expanded CODIS Core STR Loci required of U.S. laboratories that participate in the National DNA Index System (NDIS).

Results of population genetic analyses presented in this report support the usage of these loci and the associated allele frequencies for estimating match statistics in human identity testing.
