Effect of pulsed electric field and polarity reversal on peptide/amino acid migration, selectivity and fouling mitigation

Pulsed electric field (PEF) and polarity reversal (PR) of current were tested.

PEF did not affect peptide migration rate at both current densities.

PEF increased selectivity of Arg and Lys, and decreased energy consumption.

Both PEF and PR reduced ion-exchange membrane fouling and its degradation.
