Nerve excitability studies provide indirect measures of ion channel function in vivo. Rat nerve excitability was assessed in ulnar, tibial and tail motor axons. Ulnar nerve measures were longitudinally reproducible. Each nerve demonstrates a distinct nerve excitability profile. This may have functional and pathological implications.
