LAX airport as a major source of pollution comparing to adjacent freeway emissions. Particle number emission factors for takeoffs and landings were comparable. Nearly 4-fold reduction in PN emission factors for takeoffs during the past decade. Distinctly smaller particle mean diameter downwind of the airport than freeways.
