A mesoporous alumina supported potassium (MAK) catalyst was synthesised. MAK was effective in catalysing the transesterification for biodiesel production. A high biodiesel yield of 91.9% was achieved. MAK catalysed transesterification followed the Eley–Rideal mechanism
