High performance overhead power lines with carbon nanostructures for transmission and distribution of electricity from renewable sources

Multilayered design of carbon nanostructure-composites reduces the line's temperature by 10 °C. Reduced conductor temperature minimizes about 30% transmission loss and prevents thermal deterioration of lines. Finite element analysis indicates that the new design improves transmission efficiency by 20–30%. Proposed design enables development of SuperSmart Grids for efficient utilization of electricity from renewable sources.
