The facile synthesis of two fluorogenic phospholipids is described. Lipase-catalyzed esterification provides the 1-acyl lysophospholipid. The substrates are used for phospholipase activity assays by means of FRET. Significant differences are obtained in the kinetic parameters for PLA1, PLA2, PLC and PLD.
