Leishmania depends upon host for the source of iron which plays crucial role of the parasite survival. Iron transporter provides sufficient iron for growth and virulence of the parasites. Leishmania can modulate iron availability within host and overcome iron withholding defense. Iron acquisition pathway proteins of Leishmania are potential drug targets.
