The reaction of β-alkylthiopropionyl tetrafluoroborates with alkenes results in formation of 6-membered cyclic sulfonium salts. Succeeding cleavage of sulfonium salts by bases affords the corresponding 5-alkylthiopent-1-en-3-ones.
