An epidemiological survey on the Mycoplasma species living in pneumonic lungs of young dairy lambs in Italy was carried out. A culture-independent approach, a DNA microarray assay for Mycoplasma species, was used together with other PCR assays targeting other respiratory pathogens. Prevalence was 21.7% for M. ovipneumonie and 5.2% for M. arginini. A statistically significant positive correlation between co-presence/absence of Mycoplasma spp. and Mannheimia haemolytica was found. No correlation was found between lung lesion degree and positivity for Mycoplasma.
