An acoustic emissions monitoring system for hip replacement implants is presented. In-vivo implant components recovered during revision surgery then tested in-vitro. In-vivo and in-vitro acoustic emissions of hip replacement implants are compared. Unique frequency signatures are identified for different implant failure modes. The same overall implant frequency characteristics are seen in-vivo and in-vitro.
