H2SO4 addition lowered the injected brine pH by ~ 1.5 pH units with respect to the H2SO4-free brine (pH 3.6). Total porosities in limestone, sandstone and marl in H2SO4-rich brine were 6–250% higher than in H2SO4-free brine. Near-column inlet porosities in H2SO4-rich brine were 1–250% higher than in H2SO4-free brine, depending on rock type. Calcite dissolution rates were increased by 27–48% in H2SO4-rich brine, depending on rock type. Gypsum precipitation rates were increased by 25–75% in H2SO4-rich brine, depending on rock type.
