Improved measures of contractility would affect the diagnosis of heart failure. Ultrasound SWEI can provide direct systolic measurement of myocardial stiffness. Stepwise changes in cardiac contractility were achieved using the Gregg effect. SWEI measurements of stiffness linearly correlated with contractile state.
