We examine how secret conversation opportunities affect minority influence.
Majorities processed information more deeply when these channels were present.
But only when this information was novel and came from the minority (Study 1).
These effects occurred because majorities felt less powerful (Study 2).
And resulted in higher quality group decisions (Study 3).
