A new full visualization experiment is conducted to study the relationship between flow patterns and thermo-hydrodynamics of ammonia PHP and creatively capture the actual velocity of fluid in tube. A theoretical model including dynamical characteristics and heat transfer is proposed without over-simplifications but concerning different flow patterns mechanism. The operating mechanism of PHP and explanations for some indistinct phenomena or issues are discussed in detail.
