The fractions from the brown algae Dictyopteris membranacea were investigated for their phytochemical properties. The ethanol and acetone fractions had significant antimicrobial activity. Acetone fraction was rich in phenolic and tannin content. There was a positive relationship between phytochemical compounds and antimicrobial activity. None of the prepared fractions were genotoxic in vitro.
