A study of processing and slurry erosion behaviour of multi-walled carbon nanotubes modified HVOF sprayed nano-WC-10Co-4Cr coating

Multi-walled CNTs were introduced in HVOF sprayed nano-WC-Co-Cr coating. WC pullout and eruption of matrix were the main slurry erosion mechanisms. CNT splat-bridging feature and plastic deformation around it was observed. CNTs favoured the plastic deformation and increased the fracture toughness. Increase in fracture toughness improved the erosion resistance of coating.
