We investigated the effect of FGF 21 on brain function in obese-insulin resistant rats.

Obese-insulin resistant rats developed cognitive decline with brain dysfunction.

Obese-insulin resistant rats had impaired brain FGF21 signaling.

FGF 21 treatment exerted neuroprotection and prevented cognitive decline in obese-insulin resistant rats.

The beneficial effects of FGF21 in the brain were mediated by the FGF21 signaling pathway.
