Palm fatty acid distillate contains free fatty acids suitable for biosurfactant production. Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 is able to grow and produce 0.43 g L−1 of rhamnolipid using PFAD. Rhamnolipids produced reduce surface tension to 29 mN m−1 and have an emulsion index of 30%.
