Spatial model of releasing ‘genetically sterile’ males into target population. Resistant allele R reduces lethality of genetic construct, susceptible allele S. Non-target deme can act as source of S alleles, diluting resistance in target deme. Non-target deme can act as source of R alleles, exacerbating spread in target deme. Insect population control outcomes depend on resistance traits and dispersal rates.
