Seed predatory carabid beetles can play important role in biological control of weed seeds. Carabids and weed populations are clustered, and there is significant spatial overlap between activity-density of carabids and patches of high weed density. Patterns of spatial association become stronger with more advanced crop development. Presence of weedy patches of vegetation in cropped areas contributes to biodiversity by conserving populations of carabids, thereby improving weed seed predation.
