Spent mushroom substrate (SMS) and wheat straw (WS) improved the degradation of organic matter and reduced NH3 emission. The carbon source in SMS and WS stimulated microbial ammonia assimilation and nitrification. The co-composting of sewage sludge with SMS and WS is feasible.
